From Idea, to Reality

As the sole artist behind Rapid Eye Madness, I was tasked with designing, concepting, and creating the assets for the world that my team wanted to bring to life.

The ability to organize and plan properly was key to my success, as leading the UI, Environment, Character, VFX and implementation made for plenty of work, with not much time to do it all.

Overall I am quite happy with the quality of the assets, and given the low-poly style, optimizing them was quite simple. We decided to go with a solid color texture style to create a simple and fun visual for the game, contrasting the horror theme.

The static stares back

Every good horrifying eldritch horror has a horrifying eldritch... horror....

The monster for R.E.M was based loosely on the Shoggoth, a writing mass of tentacles. Wanting to really sell the scale and strength of the creature, I decided that the main menu would take place in a room almost entirely taken over by the tentacle mass, with eyes staring at the player from every direction to make them feel captive.

The screens provided a light source that basks the monster in a sickly green glow, reflecting off the slimy surface to create a visual texture that resembles something otherworldly.
